When you open Google.com to search something, you might have sometimes noticed a different logo (doodle) than the original one of Google. Google Acquires Instant Messaging Firm Meebo And Mobile Productivity Apps Manufacturer Quickoffice

There was a follow up on Google's purchase plans from the previous month of May. And just as the reports, Google has acquired two new firms.

The first one to get into Google's property list was Meebo, the instant messaging firm. Within the space of 24 hours, Google acquired another company Quickoffice which is a firm basically involved in making mobile productivity apps both for iOS and Android. You may have used Meebo before. It offers instant messaging service for wide range of email accounts. Meebo lets everyone, Yahoo, MSN, and even facebook connections to chat with their buddies of the the contact list.

Google has certainly made some clear intentions with these purchases and it's how Google discloses:

With the Meebo team's expertise in social publisher tools, we believe they will be a great fit with the Google+ team. We look forward to closing the transaction and working with the Meebo team to create more ways for users to engage online.

Similarly, for Quickoffice, Google is likely to be expecting some effective moves in their Google Docs and Google Drive.

Verizon Getting Ready To Launch HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

It was previous month, Verizon had announced HTC's latest Droid i.e HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE. Finally landing June, Verizon's TestMan site has left behind some clues for the launch. It seems now we are just a few weeks away from having HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE in Verizon's inventory and up for sale.

But despite of being so much close to the launch, the details are still not rigid. After all Verizon generally lists the device in TestMan's site in course of adding it to main page. So, it's certainly going to release soon. But what about the price? The TestMan site for the Verizon suggests, it will be available for $299 for 2 year contract but the price isn't the confirmed one. The site also shows the phone will come along with a $50 rebate. The interesting fact behind the rebate is, those purchasing the droid within the time period of May 28th to June 17th will have the rebate. So, it may launch any time as we have already landed the time frame.

As per the previews and pre-launch specifications, the device will run on 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor. It will have 8 MP camera and 4" qHD Super LCD display. There are still lot more to be confirmed for HTC's latest smart phone.

Google wants Assistant to be its Siri

Google doesn’t like to be one-upped by Apple, but by any account that’s sort of what happened when the Siri voice recognition platform was introduced. The technology, currently available only on the iPhone 4S, is likely to be heading to other impending Apple devices and is already one of the big trends to watch in 2012. Google wants a piece of that action.

The search giant is planning on beefing up its voice-centric technologies to launch a full-fledged Siri rival. Called Google Assistant, it has three ambitious tasks – pack in as much information as possible, make the presentation or output of data as personalized as possible, and use those elements to create an algorithm that goes beyond a “search engine” look and feel.

It’s the last part that could set Assistant apart from Siri. Siri’s goal is to answer questions and perform system functions. So you can find out where the nearest McDonald’s is, or schedule a meeting on your iPhone calendar. However, it doesn’t really have a social component. If you truly boil it down, Siri is just a new search engine interface and an iPhone control interface. For what it is, it’s pretty awesome.

But Google wants to open Assistant up to third-party developers that could create all kinds of new applications and ideas. The company is calling Assisant a “do engine” as opposed to a search engine, with the task of helping users accomplish real-life goals. Details are still just unfolding but Assistant should be a real product by the end of the year.
